In 1988, John, Janina, and their two children moved to northeast China for a year. John taught music at the Shenyang Conservatory and Janina taught English and French at the Northeast Technical University. Their children were enrolled in Chinese public schools. Hear first-hand accounts of and view slides of their family experiences in Shenyang. You’ll also view Chinese musical instruments and hear examples of Han and Uyghur music. John is Professor of Music at Manchester College. He earned a PhD degree in musicology from the University of Michigan and teaches music history and world musics, plus introduction to the fine arts. Janina is Professor of French at Manchester College.
